1). Experience at HP
Dell business is much more generic than HP, whereas HP business is specialized with different service lines where Dell provides notebooks, PCs, servers, and storage systems. Nonetheless, they both have wide sale reaching many end-users.
What was interesting to find from that research is that there are differences in service provider experience. Dell vendors have always taken most of their online sales from their own company website, but HP vendors have actually shared their entire website with online retailers in a bid to improve their sales experience.
We found out that, although most vendors took market share in web purchases in 2015, most online stores still carried HP inventory. This has driven a lot of sales for both Dell and HP. However, such a strategy involves the manufacturers to heavily invest in marketing in order to win market share, which is somewhat undesirable for them to do so.
What did we find?
We found that most vendors are using a variety of sales tactics to boost their sales within this market. First, we found that nearly 50% of the vendors did not have a website that lists which online stores carry their products. Thus, the e-commerce companies were not aware of the products.
We have also mentioned that only 10% of the vendors provide their inventory on the online stores. Thus, it is the supplier who decided on whether or not it wants to participate in the online shopping and store. If the suppliers do decide to take part in the online purchasing process, this represents an additional business unit of each company.
Finally, we found that even with high data mining, 81% of the vendors does not have online shops. If a company finds it difficult to sell their products online, then they are likely to not join web sites where they sell.
